License terms
Terms version 2026-09 · Effective September 29, 2026
These terms apply to every license I grant for a photograph in the licensing library, and to any other photograph I license in writing unless a signed agreement says otherwise.
How licensing works
You send a license request that names the photograph and describes the use. I reply with a quote that states the media, territory, duration, and fee. When you accept, I send an invoice. A license begins when I have confirmed it in writing and either the invoice is paid or I have agreed payment terms with you in writing.
The quote or invoice is the record of what you are licensed to do. If it is silent on a point, these terms decide it.
Rate guide
These are starting prices for common uses. The fee on your quote depends on the media, size, placement, territory, and duration. Uses marked as quoted are priced for each request.

What the license grants
Each license is non-exclusive and non-transferable. You may not sublicense it. It covers only the use, media, territory, and duration stated on the written quote or invoice.
- Use outside that scope needs a new license.
- A license for one photograph does not cover any other photograph, even one from the same set.
- I keep the copyright. Nothing here transfers ownership of the image to you.
- I remain free to use and license the photograph to anyone else.
License classes
Every photograph in the library carries one of two classes. The class is shown on the photograph's page and applies to every license for it.
Editorial use only
- For news, commentary, education, and documentary use.
- Not for advertising, promotion, endorsement, or merchandise.
- No model or property releases are on file. Any clearances the use needs are your responsibility.
- A license does not suggest that any company, the military, or any person shown in the photograph endorses you, your publication, or your message.
All uses
- Commercial use is allowed within the scope on the quote, including advertising and promotion.
- I have not found anything in an All uses photograph that needs a release.
- No use may suggest that a person, company, or organization shown endorses a product, service, or cause.
- No use in a way that is defamatory, unlawful, or misleading about the people or places shown. Sensitive subjects, such as health, politics, or adult products, need my written approval before you use the image for them.
Credit line
Place this credit next to the photograph, or in the credits where a caption is not practical, unless the quote says a credit is not required:

For print and broadcast use, a credit in the standard credits position is fine. Do not shorten or alter the credit.
Permitted edits
- You may crop, resize, and make technical corrections such as exposure, contrast, and color balance.
- You may not change what the photograph shows or what it means. For an editorial photograph that includes adding or removing elements, altering people or places, or changes that would mislead a reader about what happened.
- You may not composite the photograph with other images, or use it as raw material for another artwork, unless the quote says so.
Archive display
An article, page, or issue that used the photograph within the license may stay in your archive after the license period ends. You may not place the photograph in a new article, page, or campaign after that date.
What is not allowed
- Reselling, sublicensing, or redistributing the file or the photograph on its own.
- Uploading the photograph to a stock library, wallpaper site, template marketplace, or print-on-demand service.
- Using the photograph as, or as part of, a trademark, logo, or brand mark.
- Sharing the delivered file with anyone who is not covered by your license. Contractors working for you on the licensed use are covered.
AI and machine learning
No license includes the right to use a photograph, its caption, or its metadata to train, fine-tune, test, evaluate, or benchmark a machine learning or generative AI system, to create embeddings, or to build a dataset. That needs a separate written license, quoted for each request.
Publishing a photograph under a license does not permit anyone else to do these things with it either.
Copyright information
Keep the copyright and credit information embedded in the file. Do not strip it, and do not add a copyright claim of your own to the photograph.
Payment and delivery
- New licensees pay the invoice before delivery. I may offer payment terms to licensees I have worked with before.
- I deliver the full-resolution file, without the watermark, by a private download link once the invoice is paid, or as agreed under payment terms.
- Fees are stated in US dollars and do not include any tax that applies.
- Late payment on a license that has already been delivered can end that license (see Termination).
Refunds
If the file I deliver is defective or is not the photograph you licensed, tell me and I will replace it or refund the fee. Changing your mind, or not using the photograph, is not a reason for a refund.
Exclusivity
A license is never exclusive unless you and I sign a separate agreement that says so and states the media, territory, and period.
Liability and indemnity
Photographs are licensed as they are. I make no promise that a photograph suits a particular purpose or that any clearance a use needs has been obtained, other than my statement, on the All uses class, that I found nothing in the photograph that needs a release.
You will defend me against, and pay the reasonable costs of, any claim that arises from (a) use outside your license or (b) a clearance, release, or permission your use needed that you did not obtain, including on Editorial use only photographs.
I am not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and my total liability for any claim connected with a license is limited to the fee you paid for it.
Termination
I may end a license if you use the photograph outside its scope, breach these terms, or do not pay. When a license ends, you stop using the photograph and remove it from anything not already published. Use outside the scope is also infringement, and I may seek the fees and remedies the law allows.
Governing law
These terms and every license are governed by the laws of Nevada. Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Clark County, Nevada, unless the law requires another forum.
Terms version
Each license is governed by the version of these terms shown on the quote you accepted. I may publish a later version, and it applies only to licenses quoted after it is published.
